Fire safety

There is a fire alarm in all our homes.
It is your responsibility to test the fire alarm every week.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service will contact all new customers and customers that have exchanged a home to arrange a visit to carry out a home safety check.

What to do in a fire

In the event of a fire at your home, its important that you know what actions you need to take.

We have different procedures according to the type of home you live in.

Safe to Stay homes

We have ‘Safe to Stay’ homes that have been built to make sure a fire stays where it started.
If your home is a ‘Safe to Stay’ home it will say in your tenancy agreement, our Lettings Officers will also inform you when you move in, you’ll need to sign a document to confirm that you understand. Usually ‘Safe to Stay’ homes are flats or supported housing.

What this means is that it is safe for you to stay in your flat, if there is a fire in another flat in the same block as you.

This means you need to remember three things if there is a fire in you flat or the communal areas in your block.

if a fire starts in your flat, get everyone out, close the door behind you and leave the building, when safe, call 999.
if a fire starts in the communal area and you’re there, leave the building using the safest route and, when safe, call 999.
if a fire starts in another flat, it’s Safe to Stay in your flat unless your flat is being affected by fire or smoke, or you feel unsafe.

Total Evacuation homes

For some homes we have a ‘Total Evacuation’ policy which means we have a fire detection system fitted in the common areas linked to a fire alarm panel.

If your home is a ‘Total Evacuation’ home it will say in your tenancy agreement, our Lettings Officers will also inform you when you move in, you’ll need to sign a document to confirm that you understand. Usually ‘Total Evacuation’ homes are flats or supported housing.

This means two things that you need to remember in the event of a fire in your flat, the fire alarms going or in your flat, or communal areas of this block:

all occupants to make their way out of the building through the nearest safe exit and call 999.
go to the designated “Fire Assembly Point” and wait for the arrival of the Fire Service.

If your home isn’t a ‘Safe to stay’ home or a ‘Total Evacuation’ home and there is a fire in your home:

get out of your home
don’t gather any personal belongings
call 999
wait outside, do not go back in until the Fire and Rescue Service arrive and tell you it’s safe to return.
