Adra’s housing adaptations programme provides lifeline to individuals and families

Adra, North Wales largest housing association is progressing with its programme of creating specialist adapted homes for individuals and families with additional needs.

To date, 9 properties have been completed by Adra , all designed and build to the requirements of the families and individuals in need: 3 in Caernarfon, 1 in Dinas, 1 in Deiniolen, (all Gwynedd) and 4 in Meliden near Prestatyn.

Works are planned on a further seven properties: 2 in Treborth, 1 in Glasinfryn, 2 in Blaenau Ffestiniog (all Gwynedd) and 2 in Prestatyn.

A further three properties are in the pipeline in Gwynedd where local families have been identified in need, as their current house does not meet their housing requirement.

Works on one development includes (a dormer bungalow) where the ground floor is fully wheelchair accessible, widened doors, bedroom linked with adapted bathroom, a specialist shower and bath, hoists to travel freely between the bedroom and bathroom, a door to the garden from the bedroom, soft lighting scheme, CCTV and additional sockets.

Elliw Owen, Senior Development Project Manager at Adra, said: “We are delighted with the work that has gone to build these properties and create a fully accessible buildings with all the necessary adaptations to help improve the quality of life for individuals and their families.

“We discussed the circumstances of individuals and families with the local authorities in question identified and designed and build a new home was the only solution to meet their needs. This allowed us to secure Welsh Government funding for the works”.
