Tendra
We have proudly unveiled our latest initiative called Tendra, aimed at fostering growth and development within the local construction sector.
Tendra has been set up to break down barriers faced by small construction firms, particularly in dealing with administrative hurdles when applying for contracts.
With the strapline “Building the future, one tender at a time,” the project aims to help small businesses to navigate paperwork and gain confidence to bid for work, including larger contracts through platforms like Sell2Wales.
Tendra has been supported by the ARFOR Challenge Fund, a joint venture by Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Gwynedd and Anglesey Councils to explore solutions strengthening the relationship between the Welsh language and the economy is funded by Welsh Government.
Throughout 2024, Tendra will offer a series of free workshops tailored to the needs of small construction businesses. The sessions will cover essential topics such as understanding social value, pricing jobs effectively, prioritising health and safety, obtaining necessary accreditations, and developing a comprehensive training matrix.
These workshops are designed to share the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in a competitive industry landscape to help small construction businesses in the sector.
There will be practical support, resources, and networking opportunities and Tendra will also nurture the long-term sustainability and success of these businesses.

Mark Owen Heating – Elite Renewable Solutions
Name: Mark Owen
Company name: Mark Owen Heating – Elite Renewable Solutions
Located in Caernarfon but travel all across north Wales.
Company Profile:
The original company, Mark Owen Heating, was set up back in 2006, with the new one, Elite Renewable Solutions only a few months old. Their main work consists of fixing and servicing heat pumps units, with the aim of securing a fixed number of customers over the next 5 years.
Since you started in 2006, have customer requirements changed?
With people able to use Google our customers know more about the work and demand more, for instance if there will be after service, which is a good thing because there are a lot of people who install units and don’t offer an after service, which is not a good way of looking after your customers, which is important to us. For instance by now we offer a two year guarantee on all our work while the industry standard is only one.
Why attend the course?
I think it’s important to keep your skills up and to network, that way we can try to get different people to work for us and with us, and hope to be able to work together with companies like Adra. Also, so that I can learn the tendering process and be on the approved register with Adra and Gwynedd County Council.
Are there any more courses you’re thinking of going on in the future?
I’ve already put my name down on one or two courses here ar Ty Gwyrddfai already, things like ‘ventelation’ and such. I’m a Mechanical Engineer so I work on the gas and plumbing side of things, but I’m hoping to move forward with an electrician course in January through Grwp Llandrillo Menai.
