Supporting the ‘Defnyddia dy Gymraeg campaign

We’re supporting ‘Defnyddia dy Gymraeg ‘, the national ‘Use your Welsh’ campaign which is organised by the Welsh Language Commissioner and has been launched today (Monday, November 25).

The campaign, which runs until December 9, will encourage and promote the use of the Welsh language in all aspects of life.

The campaign aims to increase confidence, and to increase the use of Welsh language services, realising the vision of a Wales where people can live in Welsh.

Aled Davies, our Head of Governance, said: “We are proud of the fact that we can offer our services through the medium of Welsh.  A large number of people use our online and telephoneservices in the language, but we wish to promote these channels in order to encourage more people to use them.

“We operate across a large part of north Wales, especially in Gwynedd. Providing first class Welsh language services is an important part of our culture and ensuring that our residents and customers can access information in their chosen language.

“98% of our staff speak Welsh and we have committed in our language plan to increase use of the services.

“We are also proud to be able to work towards contributing to the national campaign by the Welsh Government to reach one million Welsh speakers by 2050. It is extremely important that our tenants know their rights in terms of expecting a service from us in Welsh. We all have a responsibility to play our part”.
