New flats for Bangor get underway

We provide quality homes in north Wales and are building 17 new affordable flats at Bangor.

The £1.8million pound schemes include eight flats at Trem Elidir which a mixture of four 1-bedroom flats and four 2-bedroom flats, and nine flats at the former Kwik Save site at the bottom of the high street in Hirael. These are a mixture of four 1-bedroom flats and five 2-bedroom flats. The flats are being built in areas where demand for smaller social housing properties is high.

Working in partnership

North Wales-based Gareth Morris Construction (GMC) are building the flats on our behalf with local Caernarfon based Wakemans appointed as employer’s agent on the high street scheme. It is anticipated that the flats will be completed by Summer 2020.

Our Assistant Director of Assets, Daniel Parry said: “We are very proud to be working with Gareth Morris Construction on these developments. With approximately 1800 applicants on the waiting list for affordable housing in Bangor it’s important for us to be playing our part in meeting the demand for housing and providing people with efficient, modern and comfortable homes in the communities they want to live.

“We’ve already invested £1.5million in substantial regeneration work at Hirael, and built new homes at Maesgeirchen, Tan y Bryn and Porth Penrhyn. Over the next seven years we are aiming to build 800 new homes across north Wales, and Bangor is an area which will benefit from more new homes as we aim to achieve this target.”

Strong collaborations

Dylan Wyn Jones, Operations Manager at GMC added: “We are excited to develop our established, collaborative working relationship with Adra in providing affordable homes for the community of Bangor. Continuing from our previous successful projects delivered for Adra at Hirael and Maesgeirchen, we look forward to delivering another two successful and innovative projects at Bangor. These projects will also provide wider tangible economic and social benefits for the local community, including local employment and training, along with the engagement of local small businesses.”
