Community garden transformed
Residents at housing association Adra’s sheltered housing Llys yr Eifl, Caernarfon can now enjoy the outdoors thanks to kindness of local contractors.
Beech Developments are building 45 new homes on the former Hendre School site in partnership with the housing association to provide both market and affordable homes to the community of Caernarfon. Both parties have agreed, as part of this work, to donate materials and labour worth over £10,000 free of charge to create a beautiful community garden for the residents.
The work included ground levelling, external drainage, installing timber planting beds and creating a new patio area, as well as planting fruit trees and landscaping. Fencing was also generously donated by another of Adra’s contractors, G. H. James.
Ian Gillespie, Senior Development Surveyor at Adra said: “It’s great to see our contractors giving something back to the community. We always try to ensure community value from our developments and work with all our contractors and the local community to see what we can offer.
“Beech Developments have gone beyond our requirements and have given hours of free labour and thousands of pounds worth of materials to create this garden which the residents are delighted with. It provides them with a great outdoor space to socialise and they can’t wait to start planting and growing their own produce.”
Mike Roberts, Planning Director at Beech said: “It is always extremely rewarding to help local causes and it is nice to put something back in to the community where we are working. We take a great pride in our work and it is nice to see that the ethos of working together with local Housing Associations like Adra is having wider benefits for the community.”
