Celebrating St David’s Day in our communities and offices
It was a pleasure to celebrate St David’s Day for us at Adra this year.
Our staff wore red in our offices and decorated the offices with daffodils and Welsh Cakes were available at the offices.
We were also taking part in a special event and activity in Maesgeirchen, Bangor as part of the week of St David’s Day celebrations and activities planned for the week by Menter Iaith Bangor.
Pupils at Ysgol Gynradd Glancegin had a morning of planting, organised by Maes Ni and Adra. The intention was to plant flower beds on the green areas around Llys Dylan, Maesgeirchen with the support of partners. In addition, the pupils had the opportunity to work with the Maesgeirchen Partnership and Councillor Nigel Pickavance to plant flower pots. Following the planting of the pots, the pupils had the opportunity to distribute the pots as a gift to the elderly nearby. This element of the project was funded and part of Gwynedd Council’s Transitional Generations project.
Councillor Nigel Pickavance said:
“It was a wonderful example of a partnership working to celebrate a lovely occasion. At the same time the residents were made up of their new flower beds, potted plants and cheesecake gifts from the community. All we did was St.David said to do, ‘Do the little things in life.”
Sion Eifion Jones, Adra’s Community Projects Officer, said:
“It was a pleasure to see pupils at Ysgol Glancegin enjoying flower planting and completing good work, for the benefit of the surrounding community as a St David’s day celebration.”
“Thank you to all the partners for their support and for enabling us to run the project. Many of Adra’s customers live in this area so we were delighted to be a part of this project. ”
