Gwynedd, Edinburgh, London….where next for Thomas
Thomas recently completed his three-year plastering apprenticeship and has been working with us as a plasterer.
But in a very short space of time has been busy making a name for himself in the industry.
He was nominated and won the award for Apprentice of the year in the Coleg Menai awards last November.
Thomas passed his apprenticeship with excellence, and during this time the tutors got a taste of his work and praised his commitment to developing his knowledge, skills and understanding of the plastering and construction industry.
Tutors at Coleg Menai were impressed with his wide range of skills, his ability to find solutions to challenging tasks and the attention to detail in his work and he was considered a suitable candidate for the Apprentice of the Year award, he then went on to compete in the Worldskills finals in Edinburgh.
So off he went to Edinburgh for a week of competing.
Worldskills are an independent charity that work in partnership with employers, schools and the Government to raise standards in apprenticeships and technical education so more young people and employers can succeed. Over 80 countries from all corners of the world take part.
Thomas had to show his skills during different competitions over the course of the week.
Every plasterer faced the same tasks and all of them were judged at the end.
The tasks varied from rendering to plastering to float and set.
It’s a pleasure to announce that Thomas had a successful week and came second in the competition and is now being considered for the national team.
Cross fingers that you’ll be successful, and you’ll have an opportunity to travel to Singapore with the national team.
But Thomas hasn’t stopped there – he’s squeezed in a trip to London to compete in another awards ceremony –
where he was awarded the silver award.
Amazing!
We’re extremely lucky to have such talent in our team.
