Love the Welsh language
Tomorrow (Saturday, 25 January) is Dydd Santes Dwynwen (St Dwynwen’s Day), a day to celebrate the Welsh patron saint of love and we’re encouraging people to show their love of the Welsh language by using our Welsh language services every day of the year.
We regularly support campaigns to encourage greater use of the Welsh language, in all aspects of life. These campaigns are arranged to boost people’s confidence to use the language and to increase the use of services, to contribute to the vision of a Wales where people can live through the medium of Welsh.
Aled Davies, our Head of Governance, said: “We are proud of the fact that we can offer our services through the medium of Welsh. A large number of people use our online, telephone and face to face services in the language, but we wish to promote these channels in order to encourage more people to use them.
“We operate across a large part of north Wales, especially in Gwynedd. Providing first class Welsh language services is an important part of our culture and ensuring that our residents and customers can access information in their chosen language.
“98% of our staff speak Welsh and we have committed in our language plan to increase use of the services.
“We are also proud to be able to work towards contributing to the national campaign by the Welsh Government to reach one million Welsh speakers by 2050. It is extremely important that our tenants know their rights in terms of expecting a service from us in Welsh. We all have a responsibility to play our part”.
