Time set for UK Emergency Alerts test
Adra Housing Association is reminding tenants of a national test of Emergency Alerts which is scheduled to take place at 3pm on Sunday 23 April.
Messages will be sent to 4G and 5G mobile phones as part of the national test and these phones will create an alarm sound and vibrate for up to 10 seconds.
The sound and vibration will stop automatically after ten seconds. All people need to do is swipe away the message or click ‘OK’ on their phone’s home screen – just like for a ‘low battery’ warning or notification – and continue to use their phone as normal.
Sion Hughes, Assistant Director – Customers and Communities, said: “Whilst this testing has been given a lot of publicity recently, there will be some tenants who may not have heard about it and an unexpected alarm through the mobile phone could give someone a surprise, and in some cases could be frightening.
“We want to reassure our tenants that this alarm at 3pm on Sunday, 23 April is expected and want to spread the word about this, to make sure as many tenants as possible have been informed”.
